Tulsi

I had wanted a Tulasi for a long time because she is so auspicious. I received my first one from a devotee from India. I gave a donation for the temple and took her home. She left two days later. I was shocked and disappointed. A couple of weeks later I obtained two more, and in a few days they left. I was devastated. About a month later I heard they had only one baby Tulasi left so I went to get her. I thought this would be my last chance. I would never get another one again. I had no idea what to do. I did what they had said. Put her near a window and water her a little everyday. I got down in front of this Tulasi and prayed to her. I told her that I wanted her very much. I did not know what I should do. I asked her to please not leave me and please guide me in the correct way of taking care of her. I remember the next day, without thinking, I moved her to another window (in Michigan we cannot keep her outside all year). I watered her differently. She started growing. She had definitely guided me. And she had responded to my prayer. She grew to be very beautiful and I grew many, many more.

The very best time I had at the Temple in Detroit is when Giri Govardhana dasa, who takes care of the Tulasis there, let me help him. He showed me how to mix and change the soil, fertilize, bathe them and pick the manjaris. I also transplanted most of them, along with about 200 babies.

Blessed Granny

Dear Sivarama Swami,

Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I hope you don’t mind my writing to you. I have never written to a spiritual master before. You don’t know me. My name is Bhaktin Dora and I live in Pecs (Hungary). I’m 14 years old, and I live at home with my mother and older sister.

In 1992 I went to the Hare Krishna Festival with a friend. I was not very interested, but I enjoyed the chanting and dancing at the end. After it was over I bought a book, The Science of Self-Realization. I don’t know why; generally I never read. I think it was because of the chanting.

I took the book home and cannot remember what happened to it. One day my mother found it and was very angry with me. She thought that I was reading this kind of thing. You see, our family members are very strict Catholics. They thought Krishna consciousness was some kind of “brainwashing”. Actually I wasn’t reading the book; I had forgotten all about it. Somehow it just “appeared.” Anyway, my mother was going to throw it away.

The New Ethic

Something’s happening here;
What it is ain’t exactly clear.
There’s a man with a sneer over there,
He’s tellin’ me I got to beware.

Those lyrics, adapted from the 60’s song of social change “For What It’s Worth” sung by Buffalo Springfield, describe the cloud of change that has descended upon much of ISKCON today. There is a New Ethic engulfing the Society, one that was never part and parcel of the original purpose of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s intention when he founded ISKCON. Look around you. It would seem that those disciples who are incapable of understanding what they are supposed to be doing have borrowed wholesale from the very society that they are supposed to have rejected.

And the New Ethic in ISKCON is political correctness. Political correctness, as it is bandied about at offices in Silicon Valley or Berlin, is a form of mayavada because it is a harsh social code that is utterly lacking in discrimination, or viveka. In the world we are supposed to have left behind, impersonal political correctness is enforced all over the Kali-controlled media. Today’s media of radio, TV and I=Internet ignores the fact that America is “bringing democracy and freedom” to the world by a current bombing campaign that is slaughtering millions of Muslims in six countries, because murdering innocent civilians is apparently politically correct. Rather than reveal bombing raids, the media will spend its days focusing upon a sign at a sports game that “unfairly charactererizes” or “stereotypes” a minority. Or an off-color joke told by some celebrity.

A government-controlled media that covers-up wholesale slaughter of millions while lamenting this or that “minority” is obviously using that section of society as a pawn for its own ends. Which “minority” it is does not matter, it is a convenient ploy. What matters is that you fall into line and march in tune with the totalitarian drummer. The Thought Police are everywhere: it doesn’t matter if entire cities are wiped out in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya; you’d better watch what goes on in your head. Similarly, ISKCON today encourages such absence of discrimination because it is easier to create a personality cult around a central body than to have independent and thoughtful brahmanas.

With Love from Russia

Absorption during book distribution can make a devotee fearless. Ananga Mohan Prabhu, being absorbed in this seva landed up at the underworld den in Moscow. A neighbour warned him and his partner to not enter the building. Undaunted, the duo entered the premises and rang the bell. A mean looking man opened the door and asked them their names. Ananga Mohan Prabhu mentioned his legal name, which in Russian meant ‘shark’. No sooner had he mentioned his name, fifteen men pulled out their guns and pointed at Ananga Mohan Prabhu. ‘Shark’ was the rival gang leader with whom these thugs had serious fights. Even the police feared these two prominent gangs.

Ananga Mohan Prabhu was fearless, and he told the men pointing guns at him about the Kali yuga emergency, and the desperate need to take shelter of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who has come to deliver all the fallen souls of this age by awarding them the priceless gift of congregational chanting of Krishna’s Holy Names.

Meanwhile Ananga Mohan Prabhu’s partner was nervous and kept pulling him back, to leave the place immediately. However Anaga Mohan Prabhu was focused in his preaching, and believe it or not, after his twenty minute emphatic presentation of the Krishna consciousness philosophy, he distributed fifteen copies of Teachings of Lord Chaitanya to these ill famed gangsters.

Mahabharata – Radheya Was My Son

Dhritarashtra appointed Vidura, Sanjaya and Dhaumya to make all arrangements for the cremation of the great heroes who were lying on the battlefield. It was all over soon, Yudhishthira, accompanied by Dhritarashtra and all the others, turned towards the banks of the river Ganga to offer the funeral oblations to the dead. They were all there, Gandhari, Kunti and Draupadi. Now the men laid aside all their jewels and silks, they were wearing the simplest of clothes, their immense chests were covered by thin upper cloths. The dismal procession wended its way slowly towards the banks of the river Ganga.

Kunti’s condition was pitiable, three days back Radheya was killed by her Arjuna. There was great celebration in the Pandava camp, she had heard about it from Sanjaya. When Sanjaya was telling Dhritarashtra about the war, about the death of Radheya, she heard it. Her heart was burning with grief, she could not tell anyone about it, she could not talk about the wound in her heart, she had to be silent. Today, on the battlefield, she saw the dead form of her first-born. She would not allow herself to faint, Krishna was watching all the while. She looked at Radheya and she saw his wife weeping over her lord, she saw that too, and still she did not speak. Now, at the end of all this, she was walking with all of them to see the funeral oblations paid on the banks of the sacred river Ganga. It was the same Ganga who took her son away from her years back. Still Ganga flowed as placidly as she did on that memorable day when she set the wooden box afloat on the bosom of the river. It looked like yesterday.

Mahabharata – Born Of The Sun

Born Of The Sun

King Soora was one of the Vrishnis. He had a son called Vasudeva and a daughter called Pritha. This king had a cousin called Kuntibhoja who had no children. Soora was very fond of his cousin, he was sorry for him because he was childless. He gave his dear daughter Pritha to Kuntibhoja to be brought up as his own. Pritha was a very beautiful child, her manners were excellent, she was the most cherished possession of her foster-father, she was given the name Kunti.

Once, the sage Durvasa came to the capital of Kuntibhoja. He was famed throughout the world for his penance and for his temper. He wanted to spend a few days with the king Kuntibhoja, Kunti had been appointed by her father to attend to the wants of the sage. Entrusted with such a difficult task, Kunti conducted herself admirably, indeed the sage was so pleased with her that he wanted to grant her a boon. He summoned her to his presence and told her that he would teach her a certain incantation. If she recited it any deva whom she thought of would come to her. She received the gift with the humility becoming the daughter of a king and Durvasa went away.

Ritvik Lies and ISKCON Lies

… In spite of what the ritviks say, Srila Prabhupada does in fact want his disciples to become qualified diksa gurus and go on to initiate disciples, etc. And the ritviks are lying when they say he does not want this. At the same time Srila Prabhupada is still living in sound and if a sincere follower surrenders to him and makes Srila Prabhupada’s orders his life and soul Prabhupada is still completely potent and powerful and will initiate him into the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha mantra. And ISKCON are lying when they say that Srila Prabhupada can not do this.

So as I said we have two groups here and they are both mixing lies with the truth to push forward their own agendas.
