Lessons From a Tea Cup

Once there was a young man, rather immature in his life, but ready to learn. He had a strong liking for antique things and enjoyed visiting different antique stores in European countries which he went to on holidays. Over time he developed a strong interest in antique pottery and especially in tea cups. He felt that each of them had a unique story to tell.

King Indra’s behavior toward Krishna was not very much appreciated by great sages like Sukadeva Gosvami. Out of His causeless mercy, Krishna had gone to the heavenly kingdom, Amaravati, to present King Indra with his mother’s earrings, which had been lost to Bhaumasura, and Indra had been very glad to receive them. But when … Read more

Prabhupada: What is the use of producing some rascal guru?

Tamala Krishna: Well, I have studied myself and all of your disciples, and it’s clear fact that we are all conditioned souls, so we cannot be guru. Maybe one day it may be possible…

Prabhupada: Hm.

Tamala Krishna: …but not now.

Prabhupada: Yes. I shall produce some gurus. I shall say who is guru, ‘Now you become acharya. You become authorized.’ I am waiting for that. You become, all, acharya. I retire completely. But the training must be complete.

Sri Krishna Sankirtan

In the response to “Invisible Hare Krishnas” and “Publicly Representing ISKCON”, I’d like to comment. It is true, that Harinam has taken a back seat, we see it all around different ISKCON communities, but the wonderful thing is that we have the ability to go out there and do harinam. There is nothing stopping us but our minds.

There may be politics, controllers, sentimentalist, fanatics, “fringies”, innocent, enthusiastic or confused members among us in this Sankirtan Movement…and that includes all of us to some degree, but the amazing thing is…we can pick up the mrdangas and karatalas and sing the names of God in the streets, just like Lord Caitanya wants us to. We just have to want to do it.

My husband and I and a dear devotee friend of ours, we go out on harinam in a small town in New Zealand. The response is lovely. People smile, do a little dance, we do a few books, have a laugh and feel joyful afterwards. We are going to start a small chanting group soon… if we can do it, anyone can!

There are many jealous people in the dress of Vaishnavas in this Krishna consciousness movement, and they should be completely neglected. There is no need to serve a jealous person who is in the dress of a Vaishnava. When Narottama dasa Thakura says chadiya vaisnava seva nistara peyeche keba, he is indicating an actual … Read more

Consciousness – A Non Material Reality

In his book “the scalpel and the soul” Dr Allen Hamilton, a Harvard trained brain surgeon for 30 years says the following “Theres a technique used on a handful of awkward cases. They put the patient on a heart pump and then cool down the blood. The heart flutters and stops, there is no blood flow to the brain and no electrical activity. Now you can operate on a significant blood vessel while no blood is flowing through it. Once the procedure is finished and you realise you are within the twenty minutes time limit, everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Then the team gets ready to slowly warm the patient up”.

“Sometimes we find some banter amongst the staff. One nurse said she was getting engaged, they had gone to this particular restaurant, they had gotten a ring at a particular store, ect. When the patient woke up she reported the entire conversation, while her heart was stopped, while her brain had no activity, she somehow remembered that conversation and that is scientifically impossible. If the brain is essentially dead, how can it make a memory? A case like that really shakes you up, you,re getting very close to the holy grail. Is this what we mean by a soul? Is this what we mean by an entity that can exist seperate from the physical body and the brain?”.
