The following is an account of how Giri Govardhana came to bless us with His presence.
I was allowed to serve Sri Giri Govardhana in New Mayapur in France between 1980 and 1988. I was very attached to that service.
This Govardhana Sila was perhaps the only Govardhana Sila in ISKCON at the time. Because devotees didn’t know how to worship Him he was kept in a wooden box on the altar.
One day when questioned Srila Prabhupada said to take Him out of the box and worship him. Since then Giriraja was worshiped in New Mayapur. There are so many pastimes also.
On a festival day, perhaps Govardhana Puja or Lord Balarama’s appearance, devotees forgot to offer sweet rice to Giriraja. There were so many preparations all over the altar.
Suddenly, in the middle of the class there was a loud noise. The altar was open. Balarama had let His club slip out of His hand. The club hit the asana of Giriraja, who in turn jumped right into the bucket of sweet rice which was standing below Him on the floor. These are the astonishing pastimes of Sri Girigovardhana in New Mayapur.
Since I left New Nayapur it has always been my desire to worship Sri Giriraja. How this worship mysteriously came about is described in the audio recording below.
